Bosworth Academy prides itself as being an inclusive school, providing the very best educational experiences and opportunities for young people. To support this the DfE has a number of funding options for a variety of different reasons. Below is a summary of the extra funding that is available for students to support academic progress and enhance enrichment opportunities. On the evening of September 12th, students, parents and staff gathered at Bosworth Academy, to celebrate outstanding performances in the summer examinations. On arrival students and parents alike were unaware of the subject in which they were to be awarded adding to the excitement and intrigue of the evening. Awards on the evening rewarded the very top performers of each subject at both GCSE and A Level. Each of the awards were presented by the Heads of Faculty from each of the subject areas, supporting the announcements with beautifully written pen portraits.

The evening was supported by three outstanding vocal performances from Bosworth students and staff. In addition to this, Assistant Head, Louise Holdback, invited ex-student Harsh Patel to tell us about his experiences at Bosworth Academy and then the first year of his Medicine Degree. Harsh, was truly inspirational and made some outstanding observations about his time at the Academy: this part of the evening was really well received by students and parents. At the end of the evening students and parents were able to make use of our popular, professional and exciting photo wall to get some photographs of students and their awards.

Today has been a great day of celebration for our class of 2019. As our first cohort of students taken through from year 7 we have many outstanding successes which we are so proud of.

Despite the rigour of new reformed GCSEs students have continued to achieve above national expectations across a range of subjects. Through their accomplishments, many students are today making the transition to Sixth Form study at Bosworth Academy.

Simon Brown, Head of School said: “Congratulations must go to all of our students for their GCSE success. It was a delight to see so many of our hard working students achieving results that were better than they ever imagined. I would also like to acknowledge the commitment and determination shown by staff to support our students.”

Rebecca Harbour, Assistant Head of School, key Stage 4, commented, “I am so proud of our students and what they have achieved. A few students have had to overcome challenges and should feel delighted about their achievements.”

Charlie Proctor, who achieved phenomenal grade 9s in Sciences commented, “I am so amazed with my results. I worked really hard. All the revision paid off. What was so amazing was everytime I opened up the exam paper it was something I’d revised! My mum is so thrilled. She was always there for me, especially when I was grumpy.”

Grace Williamson, who was really pleased with her grades, said, “Bosworth was the most amazing experience of my life and I can’t wait to come back for my A Levels.”

An overwhelmed Alex Fleming said, “I don’t know how this happened….but I did it!”

Amelia Tams made incredible progress throughout GCSE, and commented, “I’m really pleased with my results. I’m staying on to study English and Art.”

Bosworth Academy is a highly inclusive school and take students from a range of educational backgrounds. Staff focus on ensuring that learning is relevant, engaging and creative so that students are engaged in what they do and aspire to ‘be better than they thought they could be’.

Bosworth Academy students and staff are once again celebrating another amazing set of A level and AS level results. After months of hard work, students have achieved the results required to see them progress to their choice of University. Incredibly, a third of over four hundred exam entries were either an A* or A grade! This bucks the national trend where this figure has dropped.

Simon Brown, Head of School, said ‘The results achieved today reflect the incredible progress that our sixth form students have made through their determined practice and dedication to learning. A record number of students have achieved the extremely demanding A*/A grades and as a result are accessing top universities including Oxford. Their achievements are a testimony to the commitment and expertise of Bosworth staff who care for our students deeply. A huge well done to all!’

Louise Holdback, Assistant Head of School – Sixth Form, commented ‘We are really proud of the results achieved by all of our students. Hard work has meant that they have been able to achieve their aspirations. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing where the future takes them.’

Emily Stewart who achieved AAA in Biology, Business Studies and Chemistry and is going to study Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Derby
Katie Twelves who achieved A*AA in Physical Education, Biology and Chemistry and is going to study Sports Science and Physiology
Harry Warren who achieved A*AA in Biology, English Literature and Chemistry and is going to study Law at the University of York
Mia Neave who achieved AAA in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and is going to study Chemistry at the University of Leeds

Jack Roe’s parents said, “I am extremely proud of Jack and what he has achieved whilst at Bosworth”.
Parent of Mia Neave commented, “Mia was so well supported by Bosworth Academy staff, above and beyond our expectations.”
Mother of Brent Efuribe said, “I have nothing but praise for Bosworth! You opened your doors to our son, when another school closed theirs. He has been motivated and empowered by your teachers. Thank you, thank you. Thank you for believing in him.”

Bosworth Academy is proud that we challenge all students to ‘be better than they thought they could be’ by raising the aspirations of every learner. In the increasingly sought after STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in higher education, a tremendous 43% of all grades achieved by Bosworth students were A* or A. At Bosworth we understand how creative subjects have such an important role in harnessing students’ creativity in readiness for the world of work. We are proud to share that four-fifths of all grades achieved in creative subjects such as Art, Drama, Music, Photography and Textiles were an A*, A or B grade.

Following the introduction of reformed, linear A-levels with updated, more demanding content, students have really risen to the challenge. This year includes the first set of results for reformed subjects; Film Studies, Further Mathematics, Media Studies and Music Technology, requiring students and staff to adapt quickly to these changes.

Beyond success measured in grades we are confident that our young people leave Bosworth having developed student agency – embracing creativity, being reflective and acting responsibly to effect change. We strongly believe that our students have both the will and ability to positively influence their own lives as well as the world around them.

8:45 am: First day of Year 12 at Bosworth Academy (lessons begin)

Please bring with you your passport or birth certificate and a copy of your exam results, otherwise you will not be able to secure your place.

What do I do if:-

My results are what I hoped for and I can now go on to my chosen courses:
Congratulations! If you have the correct grade requirements for your chosen courses please report to one of the support staff before you leave to register your place and confirm your exam results.
If you do not have the correct grade requirements, you wish to make a change OR your results are not quite what you had hoped for and you are not sure you can go on to your chosen course:
Don’t worry, you will be able to speak to one of the Post 16 Team on Results Day.

Please note, if you do wish to speak to one of the Post 16 Team, be aware that there may be quite a wait, but you will be seen or you can book an appointment for the following day.

Sixth Form Results:

A level/BTEC Level 3 results will be available for collection on Thursday, 15 August 2019 from 8.30 am to 12 noon in the Compass.

AS results (including both external exams and internal end of year exams) will also be available for collection at the same time.

If you are unable to collect your results, you can bring a stamped self-addressed envelope into school before the end of term so we can post your results to you. Alternatively, you can ask someone to come in on your behalf on the day, as long as you give them a signed letter giving your permission.

The Post 16 team will be on hand to offer support and guidance.

UCAS: Preparing for Results day

Just to let you know that all year 11 students arrived safely and are currently sitting their exam.

In the event of a delay, whether that be a late bus or a car breakdown, please call and make us aware so that we can put plans in place for exams.

Please can parents be vigilant regarding the Momo challenge which is currently popping up on YouTube, Minecraft, social media and Whatsapp.

The Momo Challenge – facts for parents:

• Momo is viral game that encourages players to perform a series of challenges in order to meet ‘Mother Bird’ – a disfigured character This game encourages children to perform a series of progressively risky challenges
• MOMO is easily accessed via pops up through social media shares on Facebook, YouTube, and Whatsapp
• The challenges issued in this game present a serious risk to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and young people , as does the distressing content when a player refuses to carry on

How it works

• Players are encouraged to contact Momo and provide their mobile number
• They will then receive instructions to perform a series of challenges, via SMS or Whatsapp
• Player refusal can trigger abusive messaging and their mobile device being hacked
• A person doesn’t have to be searching for Momo themselves to be exposed to it and, unlike other games that children enjoy, there is no positive side to this

Teachers and parents need to educate/reinforce online safety, and in this way encourage children and young people to make the right choice and avoid this game.

Stress the importance of confidently saying “no” to invitations to play games from strangers, know why they should not click on unidentified links and know how to ‘block’ unknown numbers and friend requests.

We are thrilled that Bosworth Academy have been awarded yet another prestigious accolade. On Thursday 6th December students travelled to the awards ceremony in London along with Head Teacher – Mr Brown, for the award winning schools to be announced following a year-long process undertaken by 6 students from year groups across the academy.

WCSQM assessment requires schools to demonstrate that their students are capable of compiling comprehensive evidence in support of their application. All applicant schools must exceed a challenging threshold in their Key Stage 2 or 4 performance before being invited to apply. Their students must then develop a compelling case for accreditation through detailed auditing of their school’s capabilities, video submissions in support of their application, and participating in an assessment centre event, at which their performances are measured against a challenging framework.

The award’s uniqueness lies in the fact that the students are assessed with regard to whether they themselves are World Class, rather than the school itself. WCSQM believes that if a school is truly World Class, then its students should be able to demonstrate this in whatever context they find themselves. The award is supported by a range of prestigious businesses, further and higher education providers, and parent organisations that are interested in which schools nationally are the best at developing young people to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

The process of applying for the award began with students from Years 7 to 11 compiling a file of evidence which they had to gather independently. They also produced a film which featured interviews with staff and students and demonstrated a week at Bosworth Academy. This year, the final stage of the accreditation process, the assessment centre event, took place at The Riverbank Academy in Coventry where the 72 potential World Class students were required to work in teams to develop the Riverbank Academy school grounds to promote accessibility, independence and a love of learning for their students.

The Quality Mark recognises state secondary schools which progress beyond their OFSTED “outstanding” judgement and are exceptional when benchmarked against international standards. We are particularly proud of this award as it is very student focused, with our students demonstrating their independence, self assurance and ability to carry out a project using their own initiative. Well done to Thiravian, Poppy, Neely, Franklin, Katie and Grace for the effort and hard work they have put into this project not only demonstrating amazing teamwork but also epitomizing the expectations that Bosworth Academy has for all of our students. Year 9 student, Neely stated:- “Being part of the world class school process was lots of hard but rewarding work and I’m very proud to have been part of our team of world class students who achieved this. In the end we have Bosworth to thank for making us the world class students we are, and for picking us to be part of this process.”

Welcome to your NCS journey!
Firstly, I would like to introduce Activate NCS. We are your National Citizen Service (NCS) provider for Leciester.
NCS is a Government funded programme for 16 – 17 year olds to take part in during the summer holidays. Activate NCS are your delivery partners of the project, which aims to give young people the opportunity to build skills for work and make a positive impact in their community.

What is NCS?
NCS works in 4 parts:
Adventure: Get your blood pumping and laugh until your belly hurts on our 4 night residential stay packed with outdoor adventure at Ampleforth College. You will face new challenges together in your team and find a whole new level of teamwork!
Discovery: Increase your responsibility and find your independence on a 4 night residential stay in a college setting. Gain the confidence to smash that big interview, learn what it is like to be a project manager or discover a talent that you never knew was there!
Action: Take your new skills, your new team, and the support of your team leader and throw it back into your community. Show the locals what you are made of as you deliver a 30 hour project to improve something you feel passionate about in your local community.
Celebrate: Bring your mates, bring your parents, bring whoever you want to watch you Graduate your NCS journey. Showcase your experience using your video skills and collect that all important certificate.
